Corrections Policy | Legal Terms

Last Updated: August 5, 2025

Purpose

Legal Terms is committed to accuracy, clarity, and transparency. When errors occur, we correct them promptly and make the nature of the change clear to our readers.

Scope

This policy covers:

  • Factual errors (definitions, dates, case citations, jurisdictions, examples)
  • Broken or misleading references and links
  • Typos or grammar issues that materially affect meaning
  • Outdated information that could mislead readers
  • Technical display errors (tables, lists, schema blocks) that distort content

How to Request a Correction

Please contact us via info@legalterms.net or our Contact page and provide:

  1. The URL of the page
  2. The exact passage you believe is wrong
  3. A brief explanation and, if possible, a reliable source (e.g., .gov, .edu, recognized legal references)

We aim to acknowledge requests within 24–48 hours.

Review & Decision Process

  1. Triage: We log the request and assess severity.
  2. Verification: We check primary sources or recognized authorities.
  3. Decision:
    • Correction: For clear factual errors
    • Clarification/Update: When context, scope, or new developments require it
    • No Change: If the content is accurate as written (we will explain why)

Turnaround Times

  • High-impact factual errors: As soon as possible (typically within 24–72 hours)
  • Routine updates/clarifications: Typically within 3–7 days

How We Communicate Corrections

  • We add a short Correction or Update note at the end of the article (e.g., “Correction (Aug 5, 2025): Clarified the definition of X and updated the cited source.”).
  • Material corrections may also include a brief summary of what changed and why.

Versioning & Transparency

  • Substantive changes are documented in an Update Note section.
  • We retain prior versions in our internal revision history.

Sources & Citations

  • For corrections, we use authoritative sources (e.g., statutes, court opinions, .gov/.edu references, established legal publications).
  • If a claim is contested, we seek additional corroboration before changing the text.

User-Generated Input

  • Reader suggestions are welcome; however, inclusion depends on source reliability and editorial review.

Conflicts of Interest

  • Editors/authors disclose any relevant conflicts. If a conflict could impact neutrality, the content receives additional independent review.
